The Hotel You Can Ski On!
In the village of Le Brassus, Switzerland, you will be able to find the 75,000-square-foot luxury hotel named Hôtel des Horlogers. You might be wondering what makes this hotel different from any other luxury hotel, well it will have one unique feature… a roof you can ski down!
The hotel was developed by Danish architects Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), and is designed to mimic their surrounding landscape. The roof invites guests to ski down towards the slopes of Vallée de Joux, and five zig-zagging room slabs expand into a gently sloping exterior path, leading directly to the museum and local ski trails. When they are not in use, the slopes blend into the scenic background. And when it’s summer, the roof will be covered in grass which means the building will become one with the surrounding natural habitat.
The architects have revealed that the hotel will have around 50 guest rooms, a few restaurants, a bar, spa and conference centre. It is predicted that the hotel will open in 2020 and is already under construction.
